More info
The Hanwa Yixing teapot has a long history dating back to the Ming Dynasty (1368–1644), where it was inspired by the tile designs of ancient Han Dynasty (206 BCE – 220 CE) architecture. Its distinctive cylindrical shape and wide opening make it ideal for steeping larger tea leaves, and its interior is known for its easy cleaning. Constructed with genuine yellow Duan Ni clay, this teapot is renowned for its exceptional breathability and higher level of porosity compared to other Yixing clays. It retains heat for extended periods, making it ideal for teas that require more heat (such as shou puer) and can effectively absorb any undesirable flavors (such as smokiness) from certain teas. It is favored for shou puer, robust semi-aged sheng puer, and certain high-roast Wuyi oolong teas. With consistent use, the teapot's surface will develop a beautiful patina. It is advisable to dedicate one teapot to a single type of tea.
Before use
In preparation for use, Yixing Teapots must undergo an initial "opening" process to remove any dust from the firing process.
Steps:
- rinse the teapot with warm water two to three times.
